At our Atlanta and Gwinnett offices, we embrace the idea of braces adjustments—after all, an adjustment means you’ve taken another step toward your dream smile! However, the reality of an adjustment can be a little less pleasant—you may experience some discomfort for a couple of days as you adjust to new or changing pressure on your teeth. Fortunately, there are certain options to assist you get through these days in a more pleasant manner.
Stick to Something Cool
If your braces have been tightened and you are feeling a little sore, a chilly treat can be just what you need. Ice cream is a traditional choice, but yogurt is a healthy alternative. It’s usually lower in sugar, but it still has a nice, creamy sweetness. Smoothies made from fruits or vegetables are always a fantastic and healthy option. Pudding is also a chilly and delicious treat.
Home Cooking
For newly adjusted braces, some of our favorite home-cooked meals are great options for newly adjusted braces. Warm, silky alternatives like creamy soups, soft pasta and noodles, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese don’t require much chewing. Just be careful not to make it overly hot or spicy, as this could irritate sensitive gums.
Breakfast for Dinner
The majority of our favorite braces-friendly breakfast meals are also tasty at other times of the day. Scrambled, fried, or in an omelet, eggs are low in fat and high in protein. Are you a fan of oatmeal? For a more delicious bowl, combine oatmeal with mashed fruit. And of course, the taste and texture of pillowy pancakes are a hit!
The soreness that occurs after an adjustment is just temporary, so be kind with your teeth—and yourself—for the next several days. If discomfort persists, take over-the-counter pain relievers, brush carefully, and eat a soothing, relaxing meal. You’ll be back to your regular, braces-friendly food soon, and one step closer to a gorgeous smile!
