Celebrating Veterans Day in the United States: Honoring Those Who Serve
Each year on November 11th, the United States observes Veterans Day, a federal holiday set aside to honor the men and women who have donned the nation’s uniform to serve and protect the freedoms and values we hold dear. At Georgia School of Orthodontics, we recognize the significance of this day and the importance of community outreach to express our gratitude to those who’ve given so much.
Understanding the Significance of Veterans Day
Veterans Day has its origins in the armistice which ended World War I, effective on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. Unlike Memorial Day, which honors those who have died in service, Veterans Day pays tribute to all veterans, both living and deceased, with an emphasis on thanking living veterans for their service.
Community Outreach and Engagement
Community outreach on Veterans Day is an impactful way of giving back. Activities such as volunteering at local veterans’ homes, participating in parades, or hosting appreciation events are just some ways to show our veterans how much we value their sacrifices.
At GSO, we believe in the power of community and the importance of honoring those who have so diligently served our country. Georgia School of Orthodontics is proud to be the only Orthodontic Residency program in the country designated as a Purple Heart School. To honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country, GSO has pledged to provide complimentary orthodontic care to children age 16 or younger of veterans or active duty military personnel who are Purple Heart recipients. To date, GSO has provided over 30 children of Purple Heart recipients with complimentary orthodontic care.
A Salute to Healthy Smiles for Veterans
Our dedication to veterans also extends to their oral health. We understand that dental care is a crucial aspect of overall health and well-being, which is why we strive to provide accessible, top-quality orthodontic care to veterans and their families by offering $300 off treatment for active and retired military personnel and their children during the month of November. We’re proud to offer services that not only create beautiful smiles but also contribute to the healthy lifestyles of our heroes.
Veterans Day Activities and Events
Veterans Day is marked by ceremonies and events across the country — from the laying of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery to local school assemblies and community gatherings. We encourage everyone to take part in these commemorative events and to also find personal ways to show appreciation, whether it’s by sending a card to a veteran you know or simply saying “thank you” to a veteran you may meet.
An Invitation from Georgia School of Orthodontics
As Veterans Day approaches, we extend an invitation to our community to join in reflecting on the bravery and dedication of our veterans.
Conclusion
Veterans Day is more than just a day off work or school; it’s a day for honoring and expressing our heartfelt gratitude to those who have served. As you celebrate this Veterans Day, remember the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of our veterans. They deserve our recognition every day, but especially so on this significant day.
At Georgia School of Orthodontics, we salute our veterans. We’re grateful for your service and honored to serve you and your families in return. Happy Veterans Day to our brave service members, past and present.
