One of the main reasons that people avoid going to the dentist is because they may have had an unpleasant previous experience and are afraid of needles, pain, and the sounds associated with the dental equipment. YIKES! At GSO Orthodontics we only straighten teeth and are 100% digital, which means no goopy impressions for our patients. Our team of orthodontists and licensed dentists are here to make your visit a pleasant one to help you achieve a healthy, straight smile you have always wanted. Here are some of the things you can do before, during, and after your appointment to eliminate fear and see the orthodontist’s office as a happy place.
Before Your Appointment
Talk to your Treatment Coordinator about your fears. At GSO, your feelings are important to us, and discussing your concerns with us can help us make you more comfortable. Communication is key and working with a dental team who knows your sensitivities is paramount to your care.
A lot of fear is born of the unknown. We will walk you through the Stages of Braces at GSO so that you t know exactly what to expect while you are at the orthodontist.
During Your Appointment
During your appointment, let your orthodontist know when you feel uncomfortable or need to take a break.
Distraction can be very helpful. This is why many dentists make small talk with their patients throughout the treatment. If you are worried, it can be helpful to ask your treatment provider to tell you about something mundane while they are in your mouth.
After Your Appointment
The best thing you can do for your teeth is taking care of them every day through regular flossing and brushing. You still need to see your dentist regularly for dental cleanings at least two to three times a year while undergoing orthodontic treatment.
